Alarms are sounding all around the Southwest — water is scarce!
Municipal government’s knee-jerk response is to ask everyone to save water in their homes. Necessary, of course, but modestly effective since these are essentially voluntary efforts.
Technology seems to be completely ignored.
There are stunning technologies that can save huge amounts of water; technologies that have been in common use for years in parts of the world who have acknowledged and dealt with water scarcity.
These technologies seem to be universally overlooked, perhaps because they deal with such unglamorous things such as “cooling towers.” As a local Santa Fe company we represent a technology that can eliminate all antiscalant chemicals and greatly reduce the use of biocides on cooling towers, and also cut blow down water usage by 50-90%. This would go a long way toward meeting our goals in water conservation in the southwest.
